Cup success for young Yellows

A roller coaster of a game against Plymouth Marjon in the 2nd round of the league cup. Playing on the 3G suited the U18's who have a flowing, technical game and the opening goal came after 15 minutes from well worked move down the right and a superb cross from Jack Trevelyan, guided in from close range by Harrison Jordan. The Yellows built a stronger hold on the game with some good link up play and on 25 minutes they were 2 goals ahead. A penetrating run down the right from Cody Stansfield and precise pull back to Zak Moran was confidently slotted home. Unfortunately, for some reason the team didn't like the idea of being in the lead and before they knew it was 2-2 after a messy OG , followed by a free kick converted from edge of the box.
The team reset itself for 2nd half and once again took the lead when the 3rd goal came from some persistent pressure and the ball was scrambled in by Dan Harmer. The trend of conceding was becoming a bad habit with our opponents being awarded another free kick and finding the back of the net. It never felt like the Yellows would lose the game but it was becoming a real possibility. A bit of brilliance by Charlie Syvret cutting in from the left and curling his shot inside the far post got the boys back on top with 20 minutes to play. Yep and you guessed it our oppositions 4th came soon after via a defensive mix up and collision between players.
So , the match ended 4-4 after 90 minutes and we moved into penalties. Thankfully we still had our scoring boots on and Zak Moran, Dawson Payne, Dan Harmer, Kamil Wojtowicz and Dan Wilson struck excellent penalties for a 5-4 win.
Player of the Match went to Dan Wilson with some great touches and exquisite range of passes from defence . Not forgetting holding his nerve for the final penalty. Also, in contention Will Findlay, Kamil Wojtowicz , Cody Stansfield, Zak Moran and Sunny Webber .
U18's move on to the Quarterfinals.
