Hayes & Yeading United vs Tiverton Town | Match Report | 26/03/22

Hayes and Yeading United went into the game as league leaders against a Tiverton Town side that had won their last four games on the trot. It was the home side that got the game underway in the bright London sunshine. Hayes had most of the play in the opening ten minutes but it was Tiverton who had the first real chance of the game on eleven minutes when Craig Woodman played in Nelson Iseguan who found Dan Hayfield in the box but his shot went wide of the post when it looked easier to score than miss.

Hayes and Yeading continued to see more of the ball and forced a couple of good saves out of Lewis Williams in the Tivvy goal. On thirty minutes Hayes had their best chance so far when Jordan Ngalo shot from the edge of the box but again Williams was there to save the day for Tiverton. More Hayes pressure followed and Williams was called into action again and had to dive full length to tip the ball over the bar for a corner. The resulting corner was cleared by the Tivvy defence. On thirty five minutes Williams went down injured after pulling off another great save but he was able to play on after treatment.

On forty minutes a Tivvy break ended with a corner which was taken by Louis Morison and his cross found Dan Hayfield in the box but his shot was high and wide of the target. With time running out in the first half a Tivvy breakaway down the line involving Theo Simpson and Jordan Lam found Dan Hayfield in the box who calmly put the ball in the net to make the halftime score 1-0 to Tivvy. Tiverton got the second half underway but Hayes soon took charge of the second half which was only five minutes old when Francis Amartey equalised for the home side to make it 1-1. Gary Warren was shown a yellow card for a foul.

Hayes were looking the stronger of the two sides and it was no surprise when Ben Frempah put the home side 2-1 up. Nelson Iseguan was shown a yellow card for Tivvy after stopping another Hayes attack with a foul. A Tiverton breakaway nearly gave them the equaliser but Morisons low shot across the box went just wide of the goal. Tiverton made a substitution with Andy Watkins replacing Theo Simpson in a bid to get back in the game. Dan Hayfield picked the ball up in the middle and ran towards the Hayes defence who seemed to back off and Hayfield let fly with a long range cracker which the keeper never saw as it smashed into the top corner of the net. Goal of season without a doubt to make it 2-2. Iseguan very nearly got on the score sheet a minute later but a great tackle from Hayes defender Brown blocked his goal bound shot.

Tiverton were right back in the game and it was the home sides turn to make a change bringing on Odelusi who replaced Nasha. Hayes were throwing everything into getting the winner and a Gary Warren challenge saw him receive his second yellow card of the game and Tivvy were down to ten men for the remaining minutes. The game was just going into added on time when when a Tivvy clearence found Andy Watkins in the Hayes box and a clumsy challenge sent him crashing to the ground and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Up stepped Louis Morison who sent the keeper the wrong way to put Tiverton 3-2 up. Morison picked up a booking in the remaining seconds but Tiverton held out for their fifth win in a row.
