Tiverton Town v Elburton Villa
Tuesday 21st October 7:45pm Kick off
Slee Blackwell Solicitors Stadium
It's a busy schedule for Asa Hall and Steve Orchard's men at the moment. Tomorrow evening, we entertain Peninsula League Southwest Premier leaders Elburton Villa, in the St Lukes Devon Bowl, following on from Saturday's narrow loss against Berkhamsted and ahead of Saturday's league game, where we host Yate Town.
The Villa are a Plymouth based outfit, who legendary Tiverton striker Levi Landricombe was playing for in recent times, before signing for Ben Gerring’s Bovey Tracey side this term.
The last meeting between the sides happened in a friendly in the 2020/21 campaign, with the Yellows triumphing 3-0 and on the scoresheet that day were the aforementioned Levi Landricombe, Jordan Lam and Andy Watkins, in an away fixture.
In the first round of the competition Elburton travelled to Torrington and progressed via a penalty shootout win, following a 1-1 draw on the night. Tiverton of course moved into the second round with a 4-1 win at Honiton, thanks to braces from Jacob Wellington and Ise Aworinde.
Kevin Yetton (brother of Stewart) and former Saltash manager Danny Lewis are co- managers for our visitors and what a start they’ve made, with their team. Free-scoring Villa has no fewer than four players in the top ten of leading goal scorers in their division.
Adam MacPherson and Conor Rush lead the way with eleven goals apiece. Macpherson is a product of Exeter City’s academy sides and has recently returned from university, having previously played for Tavistock. Rush is a hugely popular member of the first eleven and a dangerous frontman, who was prolific for Ivybridge.
Veteran midfielder and former Tiverton favourite Steve Colwell has an eye for a pass and the ‘Tivvy Pirlo’ as he was formerly referred to has real pedigree despite advancing years. Colwell made 66 appearances for Weymouth at the beginning of his senior career and played 52 times for the Yellows. The 38-year-old has both quality and pedigree.
Forward Calum Merrin, formerly of Tavistock and Saltash and Reece Brown provide more youthful talent for our opponents, and both are also in that top ten in the Golden Boot race in the Southwest Peninsula League West Division.
Despite being three divisions below Tiverton, it’s unlikely that they will be short of confidence going into this one. Asa Hall is sure to be utilising his squad, as with our current predicament in the league, places will be up for grabs.
It’s free entry tomorrow evening and this promises to be a competitive game that could with a decent result see us have some much-needed momentum going into Saturday’s big game, once again on home soil against Yate Town. So, let’s get behind the lads!
