Tiverton Town v Uxbridge
Saturday 20th September 3pm kick off
The Slee Blackwell Solicitors Stadium
Following a ten-day gap in the fixtures, the Yellows face an Uxbridge team who although new to the Southern Premier League South, have adjusted well in their inaugural season. Unbeaten in their first seven matches, they will though be wanting to shake off the tag of being draw specialists.
They currently sit in an impressive ninth place on eleven points, drawing five of the seven games played thus far. Nevertheless, we would willingly swap places with them, as we, at the moment reside just above the bottom four in seventeenth place.
Asa Hall and Steve Orchard will be leaning on the opinion of our physio Tony Cornish in hoping to welcome back both defender Dean Moxey and attacker Aiden Horne in active roles on Saturday. Moxey’s experience and pedigree coupled with the energy, movement and goalscoring threat of Horne are options that our management will want to have at their disposal.
However, with the emergence of younger players, including under-18 Will Collins who was amongst the substitutes at Yate, the future looks bright. The inventive and fairly experienced Toby Stephens has often played a starring role thus far and is only 22. There have also been some dazzling performances from skilful wide man Tor Swann, aged just 21.
Louis Jagger Cane’s sharpness in front of goal and his impressive positional play in the final third, have seen him notch four goals from just six starts. The 29-year-old is one of the older players in a youthful squad.
Uxbridge who hails from London, were founded in 1871 and are one of the oldest club's in the south of England. They have a rich heritage and were an established Isthmian League side for many years, although this season sees them at the step 3 level for the very first time in their history.
Undaunted by the higher standard of football, the only team to topple the Reds this term are Welling, who knocked our visitors out of the FA Cup at the same stage that the Yellows were eliminated.
Manager Danny Edwards is a UEFA A licence coach and 15 years with Chalfont St Peter demonstrate loyalty and coaching roles at both Chelsea and Southampton, suggest a much sought after knowledgeable coach.
Goalkeeper Mark Scott is 34 and was originally a young professional with Swindon Town and the established stopper, has Bracknell, Hungerford and Basingstoke listed amongst his previous clubs while also playing higher up the pyramid with Slough.
A thirteen-season association with Farnborough means that captain and defender CJ Fearn brings undeniable pedigree to the newly promoted side. His inspirational displays were integral to Uxbridge gaining promotion in the last campaign. Also amongst the Reds backline options is centre back Bernie Tanner, who was part of Met Police’s miserly defence when they were a real force in our division.
Midfielder Harry Rush and attacking midfielders George Moore and Liam Tack are all well versed in the requirements for this league. Rush with experience at Chesham and Harrow Borough is an all-action midfielder. George Moore is a wily operator who spent five campaigns in this division playing for Harrow Borough and the number ten or winger is a very technical player and talented ex Bracknell attacking midfielder Liam Tack is into his thirteenth season in senior football.
Powerful forward Nnamdi Nwachuku joined the Reds midway through last season from Basingstoke. He is another player with plenty of football behind him. A product of Colchester United’s academy, the inform 30-year-old Nwachuku has also played in the National League with Braintree and for Gosport.
Jo Lawal, formerly of Beaconsfield, Kings Langley and Harrow Borough is a striker with good experience at this level and the athletic marksman should provide a goalscoring threat in the final third for Uxbridge.
The visitors will arrive at the Slee Blackwell Stadium, not short on confidence and hopeful of adding to their point’s total. Can Asa Hall and Steve Orchard's men take points from a side in the top half of the table, for the first time this term? This will be an interesting matchup and not an easy one to predict.
Let’s get behind the lads!
