Match Preview | Yate Town

Yate Town v Tiverton Town

Tuesday 9th September 7:45 pm Kick Off

The South West Interiors Stadium

Following Saturday's first home win of the season we turn our attention to Yate. Our display at the weekend was superb, and a run of positive results and building momentum will definitely be on the management team and players minds.

Despite staying in the bottom three after a weekend home draw against Gosport, our hosts have yet to taste defeat at the South West Interiors Stadium. However, they will be keen to achieve a first victory in front of their own fans on Tuesday night when we travel to them, having drawn all three league fixtures in South Gloucestershire.

It has the makings of a very competitive affair and Asa Hall will be picking his wits against fellow former EFL player Darren Mullings. Both managers are 38 years old and have represented England at age group levels. Ex Bristol Rovers midfielder Mullings was an under 18 international, while Hall played at under 19 and under 20 for his country.

The difference being that Mullings, who did have a loan spell with the Yellows, when at Torquay has retired in a playing sense. He will be joined in the technical area by another former England Under 18 international, our assistant manager Steve Orchard.

The Bluebell's squad is full of pedigree, and a significant quantity of the players have EFL experience. Midfield linchpin Lloyd James is an extremely gifted playmaker. The evergreen 37-year-old enjoyed a notable EFL career, playing over 70 league games for Southampton, 108 times for Leyton Orient in Leagues One and Two and made over 80 appearances for Exeter, with other Football League clubs on his CV, in the shape of Crawley, Forest Green Rovers and Colchester United.

James joined Yate from Taunton, as did striker Chris Zebroski. The veteran target man began his senior career in the Championship with Plymouth Argyle and served many other EFL clubs, including Millwall, Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay, Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham and Newport County.

Dayle Grubb who made non-league headlines, when signing a 5-year contract with Weston Super Mare, when they were in this division, has been recruited from Gloucester City. A technical, clever wide man, 34-year-old Grubb made 56 EFL appearances for Forest Green Rovers.

Marlon Jackson is another player to have been at Weston Super Mare. The tall, rangy striker had though prior to that, a decent EFL career. The Bristolian played for Bristol City in a handful of League games and went on to play for Aldershot, Bury and Newport County in the football league.

Joe Guest who was a big player for Taunton, often captains the side and the all action midfielder is a fan favourite at The South West Interiors Stadium and the talented ex Bath City man Rex Mannings is a player of proven pedigree at this level, joining from Frome.

There are reunions with our previous Captain Matt Britton who was immensely popular with Tivvy fans. The combative and inspirational midfielder will never be forgotten by the Tivvy faithful and Jeff Forkuo’s relocation means that he will feature against us also. Forkuo was an integral part of last season's great escape and is a very good footballer.

Oli Jenkins was a loanee of high promise in his time with the Yellows and is with the hosts now, Theo Jeremy is in the Bluebell’s squad and could also be involved on Tuesday night. 24-year-old Keeper Aaron Sainsbury is an ex-academy player at Bristol City and now coaches that position at the club.

It will be interesting to see if Tiverton can push on and take something from this match up. If we can utilise our strength’s and play with the same verve and passion as at the weekend, this should be very achievable. However, there are no easy games in this division and Yate will definitely be up for this one and are very capable themselves.
