The Club have received notice that following an investigation by the FA, Matt Wright has received a 6 month ban and a fine for multiple breaches of FA Rule E8 (Betting) between the years 2014 and 2019.
As many people will be aware, The Football Association has been investigating betting operations by players and others associated with football clubs. These investigations have recently focused on clubs at step 3 of the non-league pyramid, and we hear that at least 5 clubs from our level have been the target of these inquiries, including Tiverton Town FC. These investigations are now complete and several players including Matt have received similar fines and bans.
Tiverton Town FC does not condone any breaches of FA rules and agree that those guilty need to be punished in line with the penalties set out in the rules. And whilst Matt wasn't at the club when he breached Fa Rule E8 the club will always take its responsibility towards the welfare of its players incredibly seriously and have offered Matt and his family help and support during what can only be a difficult time. I'm sure everyone can agree that we look forward to seeing Matt when his ban has been completed should he choose to re-sign.
